Is It Good Enough?
by Mac McClelland, Modern Farmer
April 17, 2013
All those who eat meat should take an interest in the slaughter process to fully understand it. Animal products contain the purest and most natural form of protein. These animals should be slaughtered humanely, sadly this doesn’t always happen but it is our responsibility as meat eaters to find out where it comes from and how the animal was raised and slaughtered. If you choose to live without animal products good for you but we should all be able to respect that people have different views.
Learning about the barbaric trestment of farm animals – pregnant sows in steel cages & no regulations on poultry is why I became a vegetarian. The US ranks D in the humane treatment of animals because of corporate greed. Thats not going to change.
How can you be so callous, animals have feelings and feel pain
I’ve never understood how we can make some animals pets and eat the others !!! To think we have to take a life every time we have a Meal is the most ridiculous thought process ever !!! Flesh should not eat the flesh ! I like to go by the rule I don’t eat anything with a face !!
Most important sentence in the entire article is when female owner of farm is asked if she was going to participate in a slaughter performed in their slaughter house her answer was “I DONT LIKE TO WATCH”. And that says it all. If it doesn’t feel ok then maybe it isn’t!
This article is one of the most horrific things I’ve ever read and I was in tears by the end.
I’ve not eaten an animal body part since I was six or seven years old, and I have not eaten animal products for four years.
The simple fact is it is easy to live healthily without murdering animals.
I can’t believe the tone of this article, what a set of sick twisted people.
They ought to listen to that gut feeling of sadness and stop killing.
There is no such thing as Humane Slaughter! Murder is not Humane!
I thought this article was informative. I was researching local farms in my area and wanted to see if there was some sort of standardized symbol for Temple Grandin Practices so I could check their website. I’ll just have to take a drive to the farms myself as non of their websites address their slaughter practices. You talked about beef production but I wonder if you did any research on dairy farms, chicken farms and slaughter of pigs. I’ve only seen small farms of those and of course documentaries on Tv, they seem in very much need of Temple Grandin.… Read more »
Killing Is NEVER HUMANE…..and if it doesn’t feel right then it is WRONG. If a dog or cat is kicked to death, the majority are horrified and demand justice for the poor animal, but those same people are sitting down that evening to a pork(pig) or hamburger(cow) dinner, and that is totally justified. WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. There are more scientific facts that prove humans are not intended to eat other beings then justifications for doing so. GO VEGAN
