Oh hon I wish her all the best and really hope she can find more heirloom seeds.

As someone who worked in the seedbank for some months in 2021, I know for sure that this journey can be spiritual and therapeutic for us blacks and so many seeds that have significance in the black agricultural space have actually been lost and many more are facing q decline not just in America but across Africa. So yes, a mission like hers is needed and may it be fruitful.

In Louisiana, many years ago there was a tiny pea called a Chackbay pea for the area where it was grown–a bit smaller than a Dixie Lee pea but more flavorful. There was also a type of corn, used to make stewed corn (Macque choux) which was called horse corn. It was not as sweet as the corn available in markets today. Dishes made with it had a superior flavor.
