This is something I would love to do, however, I’m not sure if it’s possible where I live. Do you know if this model is suitable for a desert climate? I’m in the Mojave area at an elevation of 3,500ft.

You want the tallest trees farthest from the equator so the smaller plants get access to as much light as possible throughout the day.

We have used them in (non-willow) ‘fedges’ which are 2 lines of posts with the cut brambles stuffed between (and the odd nettle, thistle etc) to create a wildlife friendly (insects mainly) barrier. Eventually rots but takes years to do so. See more ideas called a bramble fence at https://thewumble.wordpress.com/2010/04/20/how-to-make-a-bramble-fence/

We have lots of sea buckthorn fruiting well in partial shade, in quite a bit of shade really.

I burn my blackberry vines, (after letting them dry thoroughly), and then spread the ashes around. I’d prefer to compost them, but they take a very long time to break down. I’d also love to know if there were a better way to dispose of them.
