In some special land, it can just plant trees and some places just can plant crops.

This resource is old, but much of the information is still relevant. It discusses only trees (not shrubs) but considers tree crop use for both direct human consumption as well as for livestock use.

Depends on the USDA zone and natural fauna of the area; Florida will be widely different from Michigan, Washington will be very different from Maine, etc. Even a few miles can make a vast difference depending on forest adjacency, surrounding terrain, soil conditions, water access, etc.

The only solution is to find out yourself. Look into Permaculture “food forest” concepts. Geoff Lawton is the best place to start, or just search “Permaculture” on YouTube. A plethora of books exist as well.

Permaculture (of which Agroforestry is a part of) requires people to experiment and think on their own. There is no simple “cookie-cutter” formula, nature is complex and we have to use our complex brains to solve the issues.

Good luck!

Lot of progress has been made in evolving various systems like Agri-Sivli: Agri-Silvi- Horti: Agri-Silvi-Horti-Pastoral etc., with multi-fold advantages and end products.
Currently many farmers are practicing at present.
It is worth emulating its benefits around the WORLD.

Are they fruit, berry, or nut bearing trees, which would contribute to the food supply as well?
