My cantaloupe did too. I think it is because what this article said, I’ve been watering too much as it ripened and needed to keep the vibes to 2-3 per vine branch to allocate more nutrients to each melon.

For sure the splitting is from uneven watering and/or too much water when fruit is ripening. Dilute flavor may also be related to excess water but I’m thinking they are being picked prior to being ripe.
