Ag data is a big topic right now. One critical need is for farmers to have access to data to make better decisions. The question is whether farmers also own the data. There are several farm data co-ops in the US and a group out of the University of Winnipeg that are actively engaged in research on co-op ag data. The writer doesn’t seem to be aware of any of these issues or trends, only the obvious dangers of Monsanto owing and using data for its benefit and at the expense of farmers.” Let us not forget that there are other models of business, such as co-ops, that provide solutions to these issues.
