I don’t believe I have read a single thing like that before. So great to find someone with some original thoughts on this topic. Really.. thank you for starting this up. This website is something that is needed on the internet, someone with a little originality!

I doubt they could afford much soil ammendments. its incredibly expensive to do on a farm scale.

Thankyou! I think we really need to accept that not ALL chemicals are bad. As we can, we need to find the ones that cause problems and get them out. Sounds like sri lanka through the baby out with the bathwater! I live in a rural area where people(including myself) like to grow organic food—however, since we grow it ourselves we HAVE to think like a farmer! We face those costs, and most if not all the time, we can’t be completely organic! Its skyrocketingly expensive! Why? because organic is no where near as efficient on a- “feed your whole family all year long” scale, and certainly not on a country-wide scale! Here’s some details we’ve seen to clear things up for people: Starting plants indoors organically is easy, though if you want organic seed, it will cost 25% more. Then you plant outside, but you’ll have to buy or make compost or manure if you want it to produce. Compost for a big family garden, is about 3-4 truckloads. hundreds of dollars. or IF you have several cows (or dozens of goats or sheep) you could shovel it all in the garden, but wait, we’re raising these animals organically on pasture—so—-their manure is randomly all over the pasture, so you really can’t get that much in the garden. you can compost, but to make that much compost you’d have to have 10 times the organic matter to start with. We’re talking 30 truckloads of grass clippings or leaves or whatnot. Um, not reasonable for most of us). You do all that and then the crops may still not actually produce well for any number of reasons.
Bugs are a problem sometimes, and they come and go. If the Commercial farms down the highway from us stopped using pesticides the bugs would probably get worse. They are actually protecting us by stopping swarms of bugs from coming at our gardens. And on the animal end of things, if you save an animal’s life by giving it antibiotics if it has a life-threatening infection—that animal is no longer considered “organic’. I’m not going to watch an animal die when I could save it so simply. Organic chicken feed is 40% more expensive than normal chicken fee, and organic feeds for other animals are not available here at all, probably because none of use could afford it! People get barley because its not “gmo” We all make do, just doing what we feel is best for our families. Perhaps we’ll learn in the future which chemicals are really hurting people, and which are really helping us by putting food on our plates all over the world. But really, EVERYONE should try to grow a garden–please, it will give you new respect for farmers, and feeding yourself in part really does help the environment.

The big countries like the USA don’t want this information to get out, the media isn’t talking about it at all like it never happened!!!

All the green freaks want to stop oil and coal but no one has the answers to where are we going to get this new energy from??

They also have to run their legumes through ruminants which produces evil gases and meat that the self-righteous vegetarians don’t think should be eaten.

Bacteria breakdown most ag chemicals –> they are organic molecules that the microbes eat for lunch. Actually, many organic growers use toxic inorganic salts like copper sulfate that will be in the soil for years. But I’ll be honest, unlike the organic-fear-mongers, the amount used will not be a problem.

Industrial organic agriculture only survives because people have been convinced to pay more for less food. This is fine, but it should not be forced onto everyone.

fertilizer production could be much higher, but most ‘advanced’ countries would rather just import it, rather than produce it. The planet has a massive amount of arable land that is under, or not utilized. 8 Billion people is not the problem, just like 1 Billion wasn’t a problem with Malthus first predicted mass famine due to over population in the 18th century.
If anything, we need more efficient farming practices in 3rd world nations, which would increase production. not sure if you travel, but so much of the world lives with small farms run by a family, much like the US was in the 19th century, and production for an area(acre or hectare) is not much better than 19th century or early 20th century levels.
