I agree. They are not Gods creatures, they were engineered. Smashed, with a missing wing, they revive themselves and crawl away.

I have stick that I knock them off the stems of my grape vines into the container and I get alot of them. About 15 to30 each time. I started early when I saw the first one. They seem to only be on the grape vines for now while they are in the first and second stage. They die in the water over night . If any are still alive, I pour the water on a stepping stone and step on them to make sure they are dead. Last winter I went around to all the trees and anywhere else I thought they might be and scraped off the eggs with a stick. I used a long stick to get up high in the trees but I’m sure I didn’t get all of them because they go high in the trees some of them.

ahah!
I came across a news report about a teen who has created a clever trap to catch them by exploiting their natural tendancy to want to climb up.
You can find the video on youtube by searching for 69WMFZ – teen’s clever trap for spotted lanternflies.
I didn’t try it myself, but she claims to be able to catch thousands of them pretty fast. They get stuck in the trap and eventually die within 24 hours or a little more.

Apparently they have a Smokey sweet flavor to dogs.. they are also toxic. I was just reading about a dog in my area (Leesburg, VA) eating/vomiting 100+ and being in emergency care for liver failure and a heart arrhythmia for over a week.

I also tried raid. I literally soaked it. This thing flew away too dry its wings And came right back. I started with 10 watermelons begging of summer and by Oct I’m only left with 3 stunted growth watermelons. These lantern flies must be stopped

Dish soap mixed with water @ 30% soap DOES kill them. It’s not instantaneous. I have killed 700-800 in my yard on maple trees and crepe myrtles. The young are attracted to the crepe myrtles. I killed 140 adults today – showing up in droves now. Bad thing is, the sprayer I’m using shoots 20-25 ft max so I can see a lot gathered above that point in the maples. I’m in Delaware.

I held one underwater for five minutes and it never died, Twice!??

I never seen a bird eat one. Actually, i have studied them and i never seen anything eat one. They regenerate and come back to life if not smashed completely til the guts come out, if you only hurt them, they will Regen and walk or jump away, sometimes takes 24 hours. Apparently we know very little about this pest to date, need much more research.
