Gowri – load bearing straw bale homes, barns, churches, have survived usefully in N America for 150 years. The larger dimensioned bales(eg, 3-string or 4-string) bear more weight and can support the heaviest cottage-roof-type structures, compressing bit (surprisingly little) in the first year.Gravity is the straw bale’s friend as long as walls are plumb&level. Looking forward, Paul

How is it holding up to the extreme weather conditions? I was under the impression, strawbale walls are not loadbearing, need to have additional support system to hold the weight of the roof. Is it because your roof is light weight that you didn’t use timber or other support for the roof.
